Quitting smoking is hard, and many people struggle with this inner battle to be healthier, but fall victim to their own bodies craving for nicotine.
There are some Alternative Medicines out there, including the herb Lobelia, that is thought to mimic the effects of nicotine.  The herb Lobelia is found in anti-smoking products that are aimed at helping the body reduce it’s cravings for smoking.
A bit of history on this herb.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration temporarily prohibited the sale of Lobelia in the early 1990’s because they found it to be ineffective.
Further research proved that this Alternative Medicine increased the levels of dopamine in the brain.  The research showed that Lobelia mimicked the effects of Nicotine, and allowed smokers to refrain from the habit they know is killing them.
Another Alternative Medicine that has shown effectiveness in helping people quit smoking is St. Johns wort.  Many people think of St. John’s wort as a medication that helps with depression, but recent studies have shown that St. John’s wort is an Alternative Medicine worth looking into to help with the cessation of smoking.
Yet another Alternative Medicine that has shown effectiveness in helping smokers quit their habit is Ginseng.   Studies have shown that Ginseng prevents the release of the neurotransmitter Dopamine after an individual smokes.  Dopamine is what makes smokers feel good after they smoke, and reducing or preventing the release of Dopamine helps some people quit smoking completely.
There are some side effects to each of the above mentioned Alternative Medicines.  Before you or someone you know think that any of these remedies will stop the desire to smoke, consult with your physician and do your research on the Internet.
Smoking is one of the hardest things for some people to quit.  There is no clear cut methodology to quitting, but using Alternative Medicines can help with the process.
